Flock Rocks

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I’ve been using Flock for a while now and I have to say it rocks better than any other, even Firefox 3.0, which I find a vast improvement over Firefox 2 but its drop-down address bar just annoys me too much and I can’t be bothered to change it now that I have Flock.
Its green [...]

Must-Have App for the Nokia N82

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

One of the faults with the N82 is that it is awfully hard to see the time when it is on screensaver or power-saving mode. Unlike the e61i and the 6280, it looks almost invisible.
Since I am already half-blind, the Large Clock Screensaver is a real lifesaver. It shows you the time, date, and even [...]

Moblogging on the Nokia N82

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

So here I am, waiting for my pasta to cook, and phone in hand, typing out a blog entry on my Nokia N82 while keeping an eye on Boy - where did that cat go!
For some reason, the connection speed is lots faster than the e61i and it is far easier to hold and type, [...]

Twittering on Wordpress

Monday, May 26th, 2008

The Twittering begins!
I’ve finally got Twitter on both my main blogs, this one and Strange Machines. Although there are tons of Twitter plugins for Wordpress blogs (and having installed 2 that don’t seem to work), I found it easiest to cut and paste the custom HTML and Javascript Twitter code myself.
Here’s how:
1. First ensure your [...]

Align it Right in Wordpress

Monday, May 26th, 2008

When fixing your alignment from the left, don’t forget to specify an equal white space distance from the right too.
As you’ve probably noticed, I have added Twitter updates on the top right hand box there to humanise the blog a little. ->
The default setting in Stylesheet flushed it right against the margin which is [...]

Fixing Alignment on Wordpress

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

I confess it has been a long time since I have had to edit someone else’s code. Admittedly these days it is easier to build a site with customisable templates (themes, here on Wordpress) but it takes time to understand what another developer has written and immerse your vision into their code.
If it is straightforward [...]

Software Review: Picasa

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Picasa rocks because it is an offline photo album, photo editor, and online photo sharing service. The usability is amazing.
The good:
There’s seamless integration from the time you download your pics from your SD card, fast and intuitive sorting into albums, one-touch (or two if you’re fussy) editing where it also saves your original in an [...]

If you, like me, upgraded to New Blogger and realised you attached the wrong Gmail account to your Blogger account, don’t worry. Here’s a solution.
1. Create a new Blogger account with your preferred Gmail account and give it the same profile name as your original one.
2. Go to Settings -> Permissions.
3. Add your preferred Gmail [...]

Software Review: 4 Offline Browsers

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Currently I have installed 4 programs on my laptop which is on Windows Vista Business, with one program running for each of the 4 blogs I have (to test them and to ensure there’s some redundancy in case there’s a bug in one of them, plus I like testing new programs).
CONTROLS:
Expectation: Programs should back up [...]

With every move, invariably one thinks of (or rather remembers to) backing up one’s blog. I have been tardy in this respect but now I set my mind to backing up all the years of blogging to my rather trusty Lenovo v100 laptop.
Unfortunately, HTTrack, which I’d used successfully before, does not like Vista. It starts [...]
